    The Most Dangerous Cult

Many Christians readily view the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses as cults. But in my view, Liberal and Progressive churches are far more dangerous. When is the last time the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses pushed to normalize sexual immorality and tried to force the rest of us to celebrate it? When has either of them lent support to those trying to expose our young children to drag queen story hours or to force our teen daughters and granddaughters to strip naked and shower in front of biological males? The answer is: neither. It is Liberal and Progressive churches who have supported this ungodly and destructive agenda.

There is also the deception factor. Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses clearly identify their organizations using distinctive names. But most Liberal and Progressive churches use traditional-sounding names like United Methodist Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, or other names that don't necessarily sound Liberal or Progressive. And what message do they preach inside the churches? They can't preach the full counsel of God because their beliefs stand in opposition to much of it. So, they have to find a way to dance around Scripture and avoid or explain away the problem passages. Much as the serpent used subtlety and deception to convince the first humans to abandon God's teachings, these false teachers must also resort to using half-truths and deception, twisting the Holy Scriptures in an effort to replace God's knowledge of good and evil with their own. Liberals and Progressives may genuinely believe they are following Christ. But sadly, their words and actions would suggest they are actually following a God of their own making, an obedient god who they can always count on to affirm their opinions, choices, and lifestyles.

Liberals and Progressives pose a very real threat to our families, churches, communities, and nation. We must address the problem urgently, and we must not rely on political solutions alone. Political gains, while important, are only temporary at best. The real problem is spiritual, and the real solution is likewise spiritual. Unfortunately, many in our churches today are better equipped to fight the political battle than to fight the spiritual battle. I would argue that this is due in no small part to a devastating decline in biblical literacy, and I would strongly urge us to make an immediate effort to increase biblical literacy in our churches and homes. This simple step can help guard us against false teaching, help us to grow in our faith, and help strengthen our families and churches for God's glory and for service to our communities and nation.
