Conversation idea:

The Methodist Church traces its roots to a student movement started by brothers John and Charles Wesley at Oxford University in 1730. In 1968 the Methodist Church merged with the United Brethren in Christ Church to form the United Methodist Church. In recent times, problems in the church have been growing, particularly over what the church’s official stance should be on abortion and LGBTQ issues. The church finally decided it was time to split, with Liberals staying and Conservatives leaving. Since 2019, more than 7,600 churches have left the UMC, with more continuing to leave as they’re able.

Responding to comments:

This issue divides mostly along ideological lines, with Liberals pushing for full acceptance of the radical Left’s agenda, while Bible-believing Conservatives hold steadfastly to God and His Word. Liberals use a number of buzzwords; two of their favorites are “love” and “acceptance,” both stripped of their biblical meaning. They avoid Scriptures that speak against their position and will try to rely on human reasoning and emotional appeals as much as possible. If you’re not ready to take them on head-to-head, the simplest approach is to simply ask them, “What does the Bible say?” If they blow smoke at you and you need to check into the matter further, just tell them you’ll look into their argument and get back to them.
